An Open Letter to the Trumplicans

Dear Trumplicans:

I cannot believe I have to write this, at all, but what else can I do? It’s 100 percent your fault, and I resent it. I resent that you’re making it necessary for me to call this out.

I’m talking to you, White American MAGA-Boys. I’m a White American male too, and I want to take a moment to ask you, just what the actual fuck do you think you’re doing?

Courting fascism? Was this part of the original plan, in your backroom deal with Trump in 2016? He gets to be dictator?

You delivered all those Evangelical Christian votes from the big empty square states, in the vast interior of America, plus the South and Southwest, in exchange for stacking the Supreme Court with shills for your crusade.

Oy. Are you really willing to fuck the whole country and break the spirit of our democracy, imperfect and flawed as it may be, and bet everything on Trump?

Don’t do it.

I'm serious, you are making a huge mistake. Even in these fraught times I ask you to put politics aside, and listen to what I am saying: You MAGA folks think you know who and what you are dealing with, but you don’t.

I don’t believe you’re this stupid, and I will not buy in to willful ignorance, which is what you require of anyone who supports your racism, dishonesty and greed, even when you make an effort to cover up your bad motives with good ones.

I’ve known what you were about since junior high school, since the first time I was in a room with just you, just White boys, no Blacks or Mexicans or girls, and your true colors came shining through.

We are not friends, we never were.

I remember when we got older, and you came up with expressions like“Euro-Centric” to describe your prejudice and racial favoritism, and exclusive practices, and I came to understand that there was a whole belief system that was based in the notion of White Supremacy.

Ha! The problem is, it is not supported by the facts. Your claim of racial superiority is patently false, despite its popularity among White inmates in prison, and dirt-floor crackers in the former Confederate States.

In this cartoonish version of events, you paint White people as the injured party, the well-meaning benefactor overrun by the mongrel hordes, who were allowed into America by accident or by some misguided liberal policy, or maybe to take out the trash and mow the lawn, long ago, and who have overstayed their welcome.

No mention of slavery or genocide in your sanitized version of American history, and after we fast-forward a century and a half, past the Civil War and Reconstruction and 100 years of using the criminal justice system to oppress, exclude, marginalize and continue to enslave Black Americans, you’ve taken aim at the Mexicans and Central Americans who have been flooding northward in search of work in American Border states.

These migrant farm workers settled down, according to your story, and as their numbers grew, so grew the threat to your way of life and world view. Before you knew it, they were voting and acquiring political power, despite the effort to exclude and marginalize them.

So some of you rocket scientists and brain surgeons out there in got together and formed MAGA, which was just a big ignorant movement signifying nothing, until you hooked up with Trump. And here we are, with a grifter in the White House.

Mark my words you dumb motherfuckers, you fucked up, big time. At this point, some of you are probably waking up to the dark reality of who you are aligned with, so those among you who have any intelligence and integrity at all, know it won’t be long before the actual consequences of being duped by a scammer start blowing back on you, and everyone, even while some of you appear ready to deify

It will be 10x worse when it becomes clear it was avoidable, and you committed the biggest unforced error of all time.

Do you not care? Do you think you're guaranteed a favorable position in whatever dystopian Trumplican future is headed our way? Really? Are you going to double down on Trump and pretend that this obvious greedy grifter is not really exactly what he appears to be?

When the dust settles there will be some kind of reckoning, eventually, and like William Shakespeare said “the truth will out.”

But I can cut to the chase and tell you the truth right now: you got conned. Trump conned you like the corn-fed, redneck, dumbass hillbilly morons you are. You got played.

You let a transparent, obvious grifter scam you out of your rights, your moral authority and your country. Not only that, he’s from New York City!

Consider: Over the vast arc of 5000 years of recorded human history, people have prospered or suffered from the rise and fall of countless empires and regimes, led by men who have employed every means at their disposal to control their own populations, to obtain or maintain power over allies and adversaries alike.

Rise and fall, Friend or Foe, in the whole rich tapestry of human aspiration and achievement, rarely have we seen the population of a free nation allow itself to subjugated by a con-man.

Until now.

America is willingly embracing tyranny, and as we face the loss of Constitutional Rights and hard-fought freedoms that have withstood the test of time and protected us for 250 years, with them goes the claims of American Exceptionalism. The country is headed toward a singular, pathetic and ignominious outcome: an avoidable autocracy.

How could this catastrophe befall us? Is there an army with many legions amassing on our borders, preparing to invade? Did a strongman rise to power out of the wreckage of a failed economy? Did a general in the Pentagon start a military coup?

Ha! Not hardly! Not at all, in fact.

We’re getting conned out of our Constitutional rights by a blustery blowhard, an ignorant failed businessman, a political hack whose avarice and vanity is so obvious, most reasonable people would think he had no chance of convincing anyone to elect him dog catcher, much less president.

And yet here we are.

It was a not stroke of genius or a bold act of leadership that led him, and the country to the confusing and fraught path we're following. It was a backroom deal he made with the Evangelical Christians who provided votes, in exchange for a Supreme Court stacked with shills who would support their agenda.

He resonates with enough of the voting public that he’s discovered the fatal flaw, the Achilles’ Heel of any democracy:

Abandoning The Pretense of Propriety

By winning an election once, and then abandoning the pretense of propriety altogether— the President can make himself King.

Who knew our grasp on freedom was so tenuous, so easily broken, by a transparent flimflam man from Queens New York, who lies like he breathes.
